How Do I Get Paid? What are my housing options?
The Travel Hunt
When looking for a medical travel job here is a check list to help you prepare if you travel with little ones. Check with companies that offer housing options or offer weekly stipends. Normally you can find this option in some of the older medical travel agencies.
Most agencies staring pay for travel phlebotomist is $1250-$1500 a week depending on experience or unless otherwise considered a crisis assignment which will be a higher rate of pay. Strangely I have not seen any more crisis assignments since 2020-2022 (during Co-vid) of roughly $3500.00-$5100.00 per week. Although you can negotiate your pay to be a higher pay rate it will lower the base taxable rate you are paid per hour. Staying with family is a good option to keep in mind if you are trying to save money on your travel contract.
Opting for the Housing Allowance
Always opt for the housing allowance it will give you more control over where you stay and eliminate the risk of the company placing you in shady housing or sketchy motels for a 13 week span. Research your area prior to signing your contract as some companies penalize travelers for ending their contract prematurely. So be sure to read the entire contract agreement for your peace of mind.
Airbnb is also a great option for smaller towns. Whatever travel accommodations you seek there is something out there for everyone. Don't let the fear of where you will stay be the reason why you don't get out and see the world the work play way.
