They Canceled My contract!! WHATS NEXT??
Hey y’all, welcome back to Story Time with your girl BLACK BUTTERFLY 🦋 !
It’s your girl Ebony your Allied healthcare Travel Guide, here with another story time. I have to share this crazy story with you because my travel phlebotomist contract almost got canceled two weeks early. Can you believe it? I mean, I had to end it myself because they wanted to fire me, but I’m not letting them control my life, you know?
So, let me give you some background. I’m Ebony , a certified phlebotomist, and I started doing travel assignments back in 2012. This was my first travel phlebotomist contract, and it was supposed to last from October to February. But guess what? They tried to cut me short just two weeks before my contract was to end. Can you imagine? Well, I wasn’t having any of that, so I decided to finish my contract on my own terms.
Now, let’s talk about what happened. So, there was this charge phlebotomist, who was also a staff phlebotomist, on the night shift. We didn’t have any issues before, and she even precepted me on my first night. But one day on my day training, two of the phlebotomists got into an argument, and I tried to defuse the situation because I don’t want any drama at work, you know? But the charge phlebotomist didn’t do anything to help. She just sat there smiling as if I said what she wanted to say but couldn’t and I think she enjoyed my southern entertainment. I look over at the charge nurse and say, “I DO NOT LIKE YOU!” And walked away completing the times studies assigned to me. I have always been a big advocate for myself you have to as a traveler.
Long story short, everything calmed down, and we all moved on. But somehow, that incident got twisted in the report she made about me. She accused me of being the one causing the argument, which was completely false. I mean, if that was true, why didn’t they send me home like they did with the other phlebotomists? It just didn’t make sense.
And that’s not all. The report also claimed I was rude to patients, which is absurd. Let me explain what happened. I had to work an entire hospital by myself, and only the only full-time permanent phlebotomist had not been hired yet. I had emergency room stats, time studies and morning rounds to complete. I said, “Hey, just so you know, I’m only one person and the nurses are no help.” I thought she would call the lab manager to sort it out, but apparently, that turned into a claim against me.
It’s frustrating because the nursing manager didn’t even listen to my side of the story. She just took everything the charge phlebotomist said as the truth. But I have evidence that shows I was trying to do my job and handle the situation professionally. It’s disappointing how they treated me and didn’t consider my perspective at all.
So, that’s why I decided to end my contract early. I deserve to be heard and respected, and if they’re not willing to do that, then I don’t want to work for them anymore. I’m not letting anyone control my career or my happiness.
Anyway, that’s the tea for today, folks! Stay tuned for more juicy updates, and remember, don’t let anyone bring you down. You’re in control of your own destiny. Until next time, Black Butterfly out!
